 Counselor Committee

Your responsibility will include enlistment of Counselors, encouraging their attendance in at least one counseling session before the revival, and be in attendance every night of the revival that’s possible.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Dress nicely.
  2. Be sure your breath is sweet.
  3. Use a big smile and a loving way as you work with the seeker.
  4. Be at every meeting possible.  The one you miss may be the one in which            your age group and qualifications are most needed.
  5. Be sure to attend the Counselor Classes.
  6. Be in a spirit of prayer for the services --- FROM NOW ON!
  7. No one will be permitted to do counseling without a badge.  This should be worn conspicuously on the left side.
  8. Each counselor will work with those of his or her own sex, and as much as possible, with those of the same age group.
  9. NEVER INTERRUPT ANOTHER COUNSELOR!
  10. Inquirers will be confiding in you. DO NOT BETRAY THEIR CONFIDENCE!
  11. Deal with only one person at a time whenever possible.

 

PRE-MEETING PRAYER SERVICE: (Optional)

You are urged to attend the briefing meeting fifteen (15) minutes before the Crusade each night.  A briefing session will be held by the Chairman of the Counselors to help you do a better job from night to night.

 

WHAT TO DO DURING THE INVITATION:

  1. Be alert to signals from the Pastor at the altar.  Respond quickly to a nod.
  2. Seek to put the inquirer at ease immediately.  Get his/her name so you can use it in conversation.
  3. If the inquirer is in a hurry, speak accordingly.  DO NOT DETAIN THE PERSON UNNECESSARILY.
  4. Do not give the seeker too many scriptures.
  5. Avoid doctrinal discussion.
  6. Do not defend the Bible or the Truth of Christ.
  7. NEVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES -- ARGUE!!!
  8. Keep your voice low so you do not disturb others.
  9. Get right down to business.
  10. Be positive in dealing with the soul.
  11. DO NOT USE MEANINGLESS (TO THE INQUIRER) RELIGIOUS PHRASES!
  12. Do not be alarmed by heavy emotional reactions.
  13. Take the subject only as far as he/she is willing to go.
  14. Give the subject time to think through his/her feelings.
  15. Stop the interview if YOU become emotional toward the subject.
  16. Invest your time in willing hearts.
  17. LISTEN!  Seek to discuss the inquirer’s TRUE NEED.
  18. Be sure the inquirer understands the decision and commitment needs.
  19. It is not necessary to kneel when working with the inquirer.
  20. Introduce him/her DIRECTLY TO CHRIST.
  21. Use your Bible!  Let the inquirer read the verses for himself/herself, if          possible.
  22. SEE THAT HE/SHE STANDS ON THE WORD OF GOD FOR ASSURANCE, not on feelings!
  23. Do not push for a decision.  Let him/her wait if he/she is not ready now.
  24. Once a decision is made, or ready to be made, have prayer with             him/her.
  25. If you need more time than available, make a date to meet at a later      time.

 

FILLING OUT THE DECISION CARD:

  1. Write LEGIBLY.  PRINT.  THIS IS IMPORTANT!
  2. Fill out the card completely.  If you cannot obtain certain information, put a dash (--) in that space.  LEAVE NO SPACE BLANK.
  3. Guess at the age if it seems unwise to ask.
  4. Get a complete home mailing address.

(a)  If a transient, get both current AND permanent mailing addresses.

(b)  If in the Armed Forces, get the Serial Number and correct mailing address.

  1. Mark only one decision.  One will adequately express it.  If the decision does
  2. not fit, write in the space provided.                    
  3. If special information is written on the back side, put an “X” in the lower left hand corner of the card.
  4. Be sure your name and phone number are on the bottom of the card.
  5. DO NOT START your interview by filling out the card. This should be the FINAL STEP.
  6. Then, introduce the inquirer to the Pastor and give him the Decision Card.

 

FOLLOW UP:

  1. On a separate slip get the inquirer’s name and address.
  2. Visit, phone, or write within forty-eight (48) hours.  Help them get involved in the proper church.
  3. Pray daily for each one you have helped.
