Counselor Instruction
Sharing Christ with others can be one of the most satisfying
and exciting experiences you have ever had.
The Apostle Peter encourages us to be ready
always to give an answer to every man that asked you a
reason of the hope that is in you, l Peter 3:15.
We have made available information to help you mark
your Bible.
Counseling with a person at the altar during the revival or sharing
Christ on the street or in a home can be relatively easy when the Holy
Spirit is your source of strength and when you have a few Scriptures
to share intelligently.
The Word of God is like seed which, when planted in the human heart,
can bear the fruit of eternal life, John 4:36.
Only God can give the increase, I Corinthians 3:7.
All we can do is plant the seed, I Corinthians 3:8.
HERE ARE A FEW SUGGESTIONS:
1. Begin now
to pray for individuals with whom you might share Christ before and
during the revival.
2. Go out of
your way to spend some time with these friends.
Win their confidence. Have a genuine love for them. Let them
know you are concerned about their
relationship with God.
3. Do
everything possible to get your friends to attend the Revival
Services. After each Service, when possible, discuss the message with
them.
4. Familiarize yourself
with the Scriptures that are to be marked in your Bible.
It would be well for you to memorize these verses so that you
can use them with more confidence.
5. By
beginning with the first verse marked, there is a systematic
presentation of verses on sin, salvation and service.
Do not preach a sermon on each verse.
Be as brief as possible.
Let the Holy Spirit speak through the Scriptures.
Point the verses out with your finger and read slowly and
deliberately. When you
think it wise, let them read the Scripture.
6. When counseling with
the person about Christ, try to make it clear that becoming a
Christian involves a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
We do not become a Christian by living a good life, being
baptized or joining a church, but by personally receiving Christ into
our heart.
God is Spirit.
We receive Him into our life like receiving air into our lungs.
We must make God welcome in our life and ask Him to come in.
He comes into our life by
personal invitation only.
THERE ARE FOUR (4) THINGS WE MUST DO TO BE SAVED:
FIRST --
We must
admit that we are a
sinner in need of forgiveness
and a new way of life.
SECOND -- We must
believe:
1. That He died on
the cross to pay the penalty for our
sins,
2. That He rose
from the dead,
3. That He will
keep His promise, and come into our life
if we ask Him.
THIRD --
REPENT,
(Change our mind about sin with a desire for Jesus to
do something about it.)
FOURTH -- We must
commit our life to God
and through prayer, ask His
forgiveness and invite Jesus to come in and take
control of our life.
7. Lead the
person to whom you are counseling to pray for himself/herself.
With your Bible open and your finger on Romans 10:9-10, 13 read
this Scripture again.
Point out verse 10, with the heart man believeth... and with the
mouth confession is made unto salvation. Then put your finger on verse
13, For whoever (thats you) calls upon the name of the Lord shall be
saved.
Then Step by step lead him/her to pray the following prayer.
Have him/her repeat each sentence out loud after you.
Pray each sentence slowly and deliberately.
Something like this -
DEAR LORD GOD,
I KNOW THAT I AM A SINNER.
I NEED FORGIVENESS AND A
NEW WAY OF LIFE.
I BELIEVE
JESUS CHRIST IS THE SON OF GOD.
I BELIEVE HE DIED FOR MY SINS.
I BELIEVE HE ROSE FROM THE DEAD.
I BELIEVE HE WILL SAVE ME.
FORGIVE ME OF ALL MY SINS.
BE MERCIFUL TO ME A SINNER.
HELP ME TURN FROM MY SINS.
I WANT TO GIVE MY LIFE TO YOU.
I NOW INVITE YOU TO COME INTO MY LIFE.
TAKE CONTROL OF MY LIFE.
WITH YOUR HELP, I WANT TO FOLLOW YOU.
I
PRAY IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST, AMEN.
8. Make
certain the he/she stands on the Word of God for assurance.
Turn in your Bible to I John 5:12-13.
Read this Scripture to him/her and underline it.
Tell him/her to read it and believe it every day. Remind
him/her that he/she is saved by faith, and that he/she has assurance
by faith.
9. You fill
out the Decision Card.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES ALLOW
INQUIRER TO FILL OUT HIS/HER OWN CARD!
Then lead in a prayer of thanks.
Give him/her a copy of any follow up material prepared along
with a Bible when possible.
