 How To Use These Guidelines

So we are going to have revival. We might as well have a good one. I have discovered God blesses what we prepare for. First of all, I would like to suggest that you thumb through these Revival Guidelines, and get an idea of the big picture and the possibilities.

I think it was Dwight L. Moody who said, “It’s better to get ten people to do the work of one than to get one to do the work of ten.” This is even truer when it comes to preparing for revival. On the human side, involving as many people as possible is the key to success.

Over fifty five years in revival evangelism has taught me that God gives revival to those who get prepared and expect it. Revival is no accident. Preparation is an act of faith and God always rewards faith.

In many ways church members are like football players. I heard Coach Tom Landry, former coach of the Dallas Cowboys, say, “A coach is a person who has to motivate grown men to do what they don’t want to do in order for them to get what they want to get.”

My entire ministry I have had to constantly remind myself that - the main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing. If I understand the teachings of our Savior, the main thing is to reach people for Christ, not just the lost but the saved as well. Revival is the atmosphere where people get saved. It also works in reverse. Nothing revives God’s people more than seeing people get saved. It’s a win-win situation! People are blessed even more when they feel they have had a part in it.

The first thing to do is personally enlist ONE person to be responsible to head each of the ten committees mentioned in this book. If two people are responsible for feeding a horse, he goes hungry. Enlist only ONE person. Then that person can get people to help them. The key here is involvement!

It’s always wise for the pastor and/or the church staff to be responsible for the Special Services and monitor the work of the ten committees.

Success is not in the results. Success is in letting down all “the nets” and giving it our best shot. The results are God’s business, not ours. Preparation and participation will create a situation where we can reap the results in the event God does begin to pour out revival. No matter what the results end up being, we are always a success when we obey the Lord and just go fishing and do our best.

Preparation and participation are acts of faith and God always blesses acts of faith.
